All About Me
  1. Golf Achievements: My golf career started three years ago, at the age of 12. In my third summer of junior golf tournaments I won the Oregon Junior Amateur at Bandon Dunes. Following that win, I won the Willamette Valley Junior tournament. The most exciting achievement for me has been winning the  2009 IJGT Tournament of Champions in Orlando. It was my first time to Florida, and my first ever play off to win it. I've broken 70 four times, and strive to do it again everytime I play. So far this summer of 2009 I have been having a great time. I finished runner-up in the Oregon Junior Amateur succesfully beating the Oregon Amateur Champion in the quarterfinals. Also, I placed 3rd in state for the Oregon Junior Strokeplay. It has been a lot of fun and there are still lots of events coming up.
  2. Other Achievements: Ever since the 6th grade, I've successfully maintained a 4.0 GPA. I am a member of the National Honor Society and of the World Spanish Honor Society. Even though I am constantly traveling and playing in tournaments, I strive to keep up on my studies and make up all my work. A good example of this is three weeks ago I had a 71% in my Advanced Algebra class. Finals are over in that class and my final grade is a 99%. Outside of school and competitive golf, I volunteer for local charities such as Caddy for Cure and the Safeway Classic. Those are both great experiences and I hope to do them and more this year.
  3. Attributes that will make me a good college student-athlete golfer: I know how to manage my time and stay on track. After going to only six days of school in three weeks, I was falling way behind in all of my classes. This required me to do 11+ hours of homework in one day just to get all my work made up. My academics are my first priority, golf is second. Also, I'd like to think I am very coachable. If a coach told me to do something, such as adjust my set up or aim more to the left, I listen and execute. I think it's very important not to argue with the authority of a coach because I'm certain that they know what they are talking about and care about me and my game.
  4. I will be a good college teammate because: All throughout high school golf, I have learned what it takes to be a good teammate. I am always there for my team, and its just not about me. Golf is a team sport and its important to support your teammates.  A good example of this was when we were at districts for high school, one of my teammates' finger was hurting and she was having a tough time hitting the ball. My assistant coach told me that I needed to step it up because we couldn't count on the other players. I ended up finishing birdie-bogey-bogey-birdie-eagle and making the turn to shoot 69. We won districts by one stroke and went on to state.
  5. I am looking for a university and golf program that: Is very welcoming and fits my personality. I want a college thats strong academically and is there for me.  A campus that makes it easy to become involved, yet challenging academically. I want a college with a strong golf program with a personable coach who is actively involved with the players and committed to achieving and becoming the best college team ever. I like having a team consisting of close players because on my high school team, we are all very close. We talk about everything (not just golf) and also hang out together outside of golf. We throw parties for each other, support each other in good times and bad. We are all friends. Academically, I'm looking for a strong college that will give me a good education, offer opportunities and motivate me to excel in everything I do.
  6. My college goals are: My college goals are to maintain a 3.8 GPA or higher and to shoot par or better on every golf hole in every golf tournament. Both of these goals take tremendous work and dedication of which are a part of my dream, attending a Division I school with playing time. I am a scratch handicap as of now, but I want to become a plus handicap.
  7. I am looking for a college golf coach that: Is involved with the team and the individual players. I'd much prefer a coach who is out on the course advising and coaching me to improve my game every day. I want a coach to know me as a person, not just a player and someone whom I can trust and relate to. I don't want a coach who isn't visible and sits in the clubhouse drinking coffee and reading the newspaper.
  8. The strengths of my golf game are: I'm known as a 'long ball hitter' which has proven to be one of my strengths enabling me to outdrive my competitors and typically reach the par 5's in two. I also manage my game well, knowing when and when not to go for a tough pin placement or whether to lay up or go for it. My putting is strong, on average making over 90% of my 3-4 foot putts. I take pride on 'never give up' no matter how hard it is, and sometimes it's really hard.
  9. The weaknesses of my golf game are: My short game. I've been and continue to work hard on getting better around the greens with my wedges. A tough summer program with my coach will greatly improve my chipping and pitching. Also, sometimes I have trouble adjusting to the speed of the greens quickly. But no worries because I'm working hard and will continue working hard to improving every aspect of my game.
  10. I think my golf game will continue to improve because: I have a great coach and I am also very committed to the game. I am working all summer long and playing in a lot of in-state and national tournaments. Also, during the fall and winter I'm still working on my game. Whether it's staying in shape by doing weights and cardiovascular exercises, running or hitting balls under the heat lamps at The Oregon Golf Club.
