All About Me
  1. Golf Achievements: Winner in the final competition at the University of Maryland Coach Tom Hanna Golf Camp; shot a 76 on a par 72 course, 7/9/08; Winner of the 2/24/06 Plantations Jr. Golf Tournament at Reston National Golf Course in Reston, VA; Shot 88 in 34 degree weather, under snow conditions, frozen greens in the a.m. Seventh out of one hundred ninety high school golfers in Montgomery County, MD in 2008. MVP Montgomery Blair Golf Team Freshman and Junior years.
  2. Other Achievements: NIFTY Business Plan Finalist/Entrepreneur Program; First String Junior Baseball Pitcher, Team Championship Winners; Volunteer D.C. Central Kitchen (prepping food for homeless); Part-time employee of Golf Etc., a minority owned and operated full-service golf store where I sell merchandise, anser customer questions, do fittings, re-grip clubs, re-shaft clubs, answer phones, upload and stock merchandise. I killed a fairway goose with a well struck three wood when I was 10... I got over it and still love golf.
  3. Attributes that will make me a good college student-athlete golfer: I am honest and am respectful to others. I think quickly on my feet and am a good public speaker. I communicate well with my peers and adults. I know that it takes hard work and dedication to be a good student-athlete. I want to excel at both. I have and I enjoy a sense of humor. I know that it is a privilege to go to college, and I want to give back to the college community that accepts me as a student.
  4. I will be a good college teammate because: I make friends easily and others can depend on me. I will be there for the team. I can motivate and lead others and I am not afraid to follow when the path is clear and well chosen. I am an active listener. When I am frustrated at how I play, my goal is to work through it, not to take it out on myself or those around me.
  5. I am looking for a university and golf program that: is diverse and a warm climate; I want teachers and classes that will challenge me; In a golf program, I want a coach who is a role model, and a teacher in the true sense; not just a great teacher of golf, but a teacher of life experience and maturity. I would like to be with competitive hardworking teammates who look out for each other and who enjoy a good sense of humor.
  6. My college goals are: I would like to make life long friends and share ideas and learning I would like to have fun and mature. I would like to grow emotionally and intellectually and become the best golfer and person I can be. I would like the school to remember that I was there, and that I made it a better place.
  7. I am looking for a college golf coach that: A mentor, a leader, and someone who’s first motivation is to recognize talent and bring out the best game in each of his players. Someone who will challenge me.
  8. The strengths of my golf game are: Iron play, composure, recovering quickly from trouble, 150 yards in. I usually have a wicked-mean 3 wood, and a dependable rescue club
  9. The weaknesses of my golf game are: An occasional stray drive. I am continuing to work hard on course management, and improving in this area with each round.  I am working hard on committing to each short game shot.
  10. I think my golf game will continue to improve because: In past golf tournaments, I was always focused on my score. I had a revelation recently that made the crippling distraction of worrying about my score during play leave my thoughts. I realized that if I take care of my swing, one swing at a time, my score will take care of itself. This is what I did recently, and I beat the ninth ranked junior in my state. Its clear now, the role focus plays in my game, and how I must clear distraction from my mind. The process of the game is important; the end result is simply a reflection of how well you strike each ball. I know physically and mentally what I must do to continue improving.
Personal Statement
