All About Me
  1. Golf Achievements:

Throughout my high school career, I have competed on the FCWT, IJGT,  and the AJGA to prepare for college golf.  My achievements include a 2nd place finish in the IJGT Mid-Season Championship in January 2010, a first place finish in the UNDER ARMOUR East College Golf Combine in July 2008, District V Champion in my sophomore year of high school, winning my Club Championship in August of 2009 and having my first hole in one in the summer of 2008.

  2. Other Achievements: I enjoy playing basketball with friends.  In school, I have been a member of the Varsity Club, the Student Government Association and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  I have made the Honor Roll all 4 years during high school and currently hold a 3.6 GPA.
  3. Attributes that will make me a good college student-athlete golfer: I work extremely hard at everything I do.  I believe that success in life involves dedication to both the sport you play and the information you learn in school.  I know that I will be a mentally tough athlete if I devote myself to all aspects of life.
  4. I will be a good college teammate because: I am very supportive of my teammates.  As the #1 player, they looked up to me and I enjoyed helping them.  I study golf through reading and have taught myself  many golf drills that I use in my own practice and I found it very rewarding to share these with them.  I feel as though I have a great personality and am easy to get along with which will help to create long-lasting relationships with my teammates.
  5. I am looking for a university and golf program that: Has a great coaching staff, practice facility, challenging academics, and a well-rounded student life.
  6. My college goals are: To always improve!  To learn new things about myself and my own game.  Another goal of mine would be to contribute immediately to the team, making the travel team or essentially, being one of the top 5 players.
  7. I am looking for a college golf coach that: Has a great knowledge and understanding of the game.  Has had golf experience and pushes us (teammate) to the best that we can be.
  8. The strengths of my golf game are: By attending the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy, I feel that all aspects of my game are  getting stronger.  However, I continue to work with my coach to improve every day.  To be specific about  my strength, I would say my driving accuarcy, short game and bunker play.
  9. The weaknesses of my golf game are: I continue to work on iron play and putting.
  10. I think my golf game will continue to improve because: I work so hard at it and I am making great strides at improving.  My hard work is paying off as I can see positive results.
Personal Statement
My name is Matt Fry, and I am in my senior year of high school at the Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida.  I grew up in Bel Air, Maryland but have decided to focus on my game and now attend the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy.  One of my immediate goals is to play college golf.  I have been playing since  the age of eight and I started getting involved in competitive golf at the age of 10. I finished 4th in my first tournament.  I love playing golf and I especially love practicing.  I enjoy being outside and working on my game to improve my abilities and I feel that all the time I have spent practicing has really made me into the person I am today.  Golf has taught me life lessons that I cherish already and I look forward to the game teaching many more.  It has made me an extremely hard worker, made me a more mentally tough person, has taught me to never give up and has opened the door to making life-long friends!  I want to be a great player at the college and professional level and am willing to put in the work needed to achieve that goal.
