All About Me
  1. Golf Achievements:
On June 21st and 22nd, I scored 80/69 for a 149 total and 4th place finish out of a field of 50 at the annual 2 day Haywhacker Championship in Steamboat Springs, CO.    On June 24th and 25th I shot a 73/69 for a 142 (2 over par) in the Colorado Section Junior Championship at Indian Tree.  I won the playoff spot for 1st Alternate.
  2. Other Achievements:
I am an honor roll student at Mountain Vista High School.  In addition, I play Alto Saxophone in the Wind Ensemble and several outside bands and actively study jazz.  I have also participated in several youth missions trips at my church in past summers including travel to Mexico, and Texas.
  3. Attributes that will make me a good college student-athlete golfer:
I am a hard worker and dedicated to both improving my game as well as keeping my grades up which can be a struggle during the High School season.  I enjoy the team aspect but also relish doing my best as an individual.  If you ask anyone I have competed with or against, you will often hear how much they have enjoyed playing with me and that they would like to play golf with me again.  I tend to put everyone around me or in my grouping at ease when I am playing with them.
  4. I will be a good college teammate because:
I support my other teammates and keep them motivated as well as help to relieve their stress when things are not going well.  I can handle the blow-up hole and take it in stride realizing that it is not the end of my round.  Recently, I found myself 5 under par thru ten holes in a tournament and went double/double to fall to just 1 under par thru 12 holes.  I took it in stride and followed that up with 3 consecutive birdies to get it back to 4 under par.  I have learned how to control my emotions over the game and to not let a bad hole or bad shot or two ruin my round or the tournament.
  5. I am looking for a university and golf program that:
...will allow me to continue to improve and grow in my understanding of the game.  I want to be in the golf business as a career goal.  While my dream is to play professionally one day, I do intend on becoming a PGA Professional and to work either in instruction, course administration or in the industry in some capacity.  I enjoy travel and look forward to being able to travel as part of the golf team and representing my school to the highest standards.
  6. My college goals are:
To graduate with a 4 year degree....in 4 Years!  I know that even if I am fortunate to have the level of game and skill to potentially play at any level professionally, it is incredibly important to me to continue my education and compete a four year degree in the area of business with an emphasis on marketing and I am looking seriously at the various PGM Management Programs around the country.  I also believe that I would owe it to my team to continue in the program.  From a collegiate golf career perspective, I would like to win at least one event and have one top 5 finish each season as well as qualify for the NCAA tournament.
  7. I am looking for a college golf coach that:
.... Will be supportive of the team as a whole, yet is willing to focus his time and attention at the individual level to make a difference in everyone.  A coach that is fun to work with and is fair; that has high standards of integrity in their players.
  8. The strengths of my golf game are:
Driving distance - Par 5 Scoring, and mid/long approach shots to greens, side-hill or uneven lies and bunker and pitching/chipping.
  9. The weaknesses of my golf game are:
Consistently scoring when in scoring position and developing a sound short game, especially my bunker play using a variety of wedge shots.  Playing in windy conditions.
  10. I think my golf game will continue to improve because:
My game has improved dramatically over the past 12 months and I am expecting it to continue to improve over the year primarily because I love the game and have dedicated much of my life to getting better and playing the best competition.  I am currently in 9th position in points standing with the Colorado Junior Golf Association.  I believe that I will become one of the top 10 golfers in the state of Colorado over course of the 2010 Season and I look forward to a very successful High School Season this fall.
Personal Statement
Hello!  My name is Austin Raap and I'm 17 years old and entering my Senior year this fall.  Thank you for looking at my resume.

I truly love the game of golf and have enjoyed competing this season perhaps more than in any past season as I have begun to see success and my scoring averages continue to dramatically improve.  I just completed a competitive round where I scored 8 birdies!  In my last 54 holes of competitive junior golf, I have scored 18 birdies!  I now know that I am capable of playing some great golf and going low!

I know that I need to continue to improve and am dedicated to getting better!  I am playing in many tournaments this summer and if I am not in a competitive event, I am practicing every day.  I am also an "A" Caddie at Cherry Hills country Club in Greenwood Village, CO.  I also love music, especially Jazz and play the Alto Sax!  I am first chair in the Alto section in the  Wind Ensemble at Mountain Vista High School.

I am interested in playing College Golf and am very much committed to enrolling in one of the PGM Management Programs available nationwide.  My personal career goal is to become a Head Golf Professional/Director of Golf at a well known club.
